"Being a good dad starts with presence not presents"
Having two girls (3 and 1.5) that love to be read to is great. They will listen to so many different stories about far off places and amazing creatures. However as a dad it plays on my mind the type of message i'm sending to them if I read to many princess saved by hero or girl as the damsel books. So last year I set about on a search for some books that I felt, sent the message to Lucy and Tilley that they can, be happy, do anything they put their mind to and achieve amazing things under their own steam...............Prince not required. So here is my list, it is by no means comprehensive and only my opinion but when I read them to my daughters I get a good feeling in my heart about what the books are saying. Although they may not realize it yet I hope subconsciously its empowering them now and for down the road in later life. ![]() Rosier Revere Engineer: This is a beautifully colorful and fun book. Rosie builds gadgets but get laughed at until her aunt make her realizes that every failure is just a stepping stone to success. ![]() The Most Magnificent Thing: A girl decided to make the most magnificent thing, but has no idea what it will be. After trying and trying she cant get it and then realizes though all the things she made maybe the most magnificent thing is there after all. ![]() The Little Pea: When a little pea does want to be the same as all the other it goes on an adventure to see what is can be! ![]() Not Every Princess: Not every princess is the same and neither are alot of things. Just because your want to be something doesn't mean you have to be the same. ![]() The Adventurers: A girl day dreams of grand adventure on pirate ships and in jungles before bedtime. ![]() What To Do With An Idea: When you have an idea, what should you do with it. This is a great book that show if you take care of an idea and don't give up on it then amazing things can happen. ![]() I Like Myself: A beautiful rhyming story about liking everything about yourself. ![]() Stephanie's Ponytail: Everyone wants to be the same as stephanie but stephanie want to be unique so she finds a way to be just that. ![]() Do Princess' Wear Hiking Boot: When a girls asks her mum what a princess is and what they do she finds out form the answer that being a princess is about whats on the inside not the out.
