When ever I pick up up bottle from flying monkeys brewery with its colorful name and psychedelic label i feel a little warm and fuzzy. When I moved to Canada for the UK, flying monkeys was the first Canadian craft brewery I ever visited. In Barrie, Ontario for work we wandered around and found a fantastic brewery doing insane things tucked into a brick building down the road form the local pub. The staff were more than friendly and could wait to tell us about the beer and the brewing and pretty much anything we asked. We grabbed some hoptical illusion for the road and a flying monkey bottle opener went on our beery way.
Since then I have been a huge fan of this brewery. Their crazy labels and packaging seem to represent the intense flavors and aromas of their beers. Every time you crack one open you can almost feel the passion that goes into their recipes and brewing explode out. Whenever i'm back in Ontario I always try and make a trip there to stock up and see what's new. So when I walked in to our local LC in Manitoba and saw a large bottle of aurora seasonal by fly monkeys there wasn't even a choice. This awesome chocolate and raspberry stout doesn't disappoint. The only thing that tops the great smell of chocolate and raspberry when you lift your glass up to your lips, is the actual taste of chocolate and raspberry melting in with the delicious stout as you drink it. Make no mistake, this is the full deal. Like the rest of flying monkeys' offerings it delivers on taste and smell, holding back nothing.
There is nothing more awesome than seeing a brewery that's doing unconventional things, stick to their guns and keeping the weird alive in craft brewing. That's what flying monkeys represents for me. So if you have never tried it, my advise. Head down to your local store or even better into the brewery itself and check them out. I'm a fan for life and cant wait to see what they have in store for us next!
